About Kingston

A Historic City

Kingston was one of the first towns to be established in all of, Canada, with buildings dating back over 300 years. Kingston was also the first capitol of Canada in 1841, before it was relocated to Ottawa. Kingston was home to Canada’s first parliamentary building, the first secondary school, the first farmers market, the first police force, and the first military. Kingston was the home and is now the resting place of the first Prime Minister of Canada -Sir John A. Macdonald.

In Kingston you may wish to take a tour of Fort Henry, a 19th century British Military Fortress, Canada's nautical heritage Marine Museum of the Great Lakes, explore fascinating exhibits at museums all over the city. Get acquainted with Kingston's gothic side with the lantern lit Haunted Walks of Kingston.

A Modern City

The City of Kingston is located halfway between Montreal and Toronto, Canada's two largest cities, and is just south of Ottawa. Kingston is an eclectic mix of old and new "where history and innovation thrive". Home to the internationally recognized and prestigious Queens University, Kingston is a hotbed for new ideas and discoveries. Hundreds of sailors travel to Kingston for C.O.R.K., the annual Canadian Olympic Training Regatta. Whether you’re in to shipwreck scuba diving, conservation area walks, triathlons, 1000 Islands boat cruises, clubs or pubs, Kingston has something for everyone.
